Economy06/09/2007Uzbek report praises industrial sector of capital region
Industrial enterprises in a number of districts in Tashkent Region of Uzbekistan are doing well, an analytical report published in the Uzbek newspaper Pravda Vostoka on 4 September said.
The Uzmetkombinat - Uzbek metal plant in Bekobod District - is the biggest producer of metal in the country, the report said. A programme worth 49m dollars to modernize equipment in the plant is under way, it added.
The population of the district is almost 90,000 people.
Another two big plants - the Olmaliq Mining and Metallurgical Combine and the Olmaliq Ammophos plant are in Olmaliq District which has a population of over 120,000 people, the report said. Over 700 entrepreneurs in the district produce almost 58 types of consumer goods, it said.
"Improvement can be seen practically in all enterprises in the town. Cooperation with Russian partners is developing in an active way of late. During a recent visit by First Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov, it was decided to set up the UzRosAvia joint enterprise which will repair helicopters," the report said.
The report praised the work of such joint enterprises like the "Bursel Tashkent", an Uzbek-Turkish textile factory which employs 1,200 people, and the "Daeshin Megatex", an Uzbek-South Korean textile factory with the workforce of 400 people, which exports goods to Europe and the USA.
