Uzbek railway company starts project on launch of high-speed passenger communication
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Temir Yollari state joint-stock railway company started to realize a project on organization of high-speed passenger communications, Gudok reported.

Spain’s Talgo Group, producer of high-speed trains, is partner of the Uzbek company in this project.

The sides are completing negotiations on purchase of two locomotives and cars of Talgo AVE 250 series. The sum of contract is 38 million euros. It is expected that the Spanish firm will supply trains to Uzbekistan in March-April 2011.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari will use the trains on route between Tashkent and Samarkand. The exploitation speed of trains will be at the level of 250 km per hour.

Talgo Group will create service center for trains and train Uzbek specialists in Spain. The Uzbek company finance the project due to own resources.

Representative of Talgo Group in Kazakhstan Pascual Torres said: “Potential demands for high-speed transportation in Uzbekistan attracts us. Besides, cooperation with Uzbekistan Temir Yollari is interesting for us as the company have long-term development programme. This makes possible to develop new high-speed routes in territory of Uzbekistan. That’s why, two trains, which are planned to supply after two years, is start of our cooperation with Uzbekistan Temir Yollari.”
