Uzbek President Visits Export-Oriented Intensive Orchard in Parkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited one of the modern intensive orchards located in the Parkent district to review the outcomes of the current harvest season.

The 54-hectare orchard, operated by the agricultural enterprise Meridian Tempo, cultivates high-yield varieties of cherries, apples, pears, and raspberries, all intended for export. The seedlings were imported from France and Spain. These fruit trees are notable for their self-pollinating characteristics, which significantly enhance productivity and reduce dependence on external conditions.

The orchard incorporates advanced agricultural technologies, including a gravity-fed drip irrigation system that utilizes the natural slope of the terrain. Water is first collected in a reservoir and then distributed without the need for pumps, greatly reducing energy costs. Energy efficiency is further improved through the use of solar panels installed on-site.

The entire harvest is destined for export markets.

This year, the orchard is expected to yield 256 tonnes of cherries, 500 tonnes of apples, 480 tonnes of pears, and 30 tonnes of raspberries. These volumes deliver significantly higher income compared to traditional crops.

The President emphasized the importance of further expanding the use of intensive agricultural technologies, adopting international best practices in orchard management, and improving packaging and post-harvest processes to enhance the competitiveness of Uzbek fruit exports.
