Uzbek President Islam Karimov has arrived in Asgabat on an official visit at the invitation of the Turkmen president, Turkmen TV Altyn Asyr channel has reported.
The Altyn Asyr TV channel started its 0700 gmt newscast on 18 October with brief information on Karimov’s arrival. An official welcome ceremony was held at Asgabat airport for the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the report said.

It said trade between the two countries in the first seven months of this year amounted to US$48 million.

Russia’s ITAR-TASS reported quoting Turkmenistan’s government that the meeting between the two leaders will expand the framework of fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and make significant changes to a programme of bilateral cooperation, marking the start of a new era in Turkmen-Uzbek partnership.
