Uzbek President reviewed proposals to support entrepreneurs and involve them in export activities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev considered proposals to expand business activities and involve them in exports on 12 March.

Earlier, at a video conference on 18 December 2023, the head of state emphasized the importance of these measures. New approaches were developed based on proposals from entrepreneurs with the participation of experts.

The analysis showed that last year exporting enterprises were provided with assistance in the amount of 665 billion soums, which made it possible to ensure exports of US$3.2 billion.

However, in certain industries and regions these funds were not used effectively. In the sectors of electrical engineering, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and jewelry, exports did not reach average levels. Industry associations have reached only a portion of potential exporters.

In this regard, it is proposed to combine issues of production in regions, industrial zones and exports into a single system. It is proposed to include 12 sectoral and industrial associations in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry system. This will simplify decision-making and strengthen interaction between entrepreneurs.

Following the experience of developed countries, a Trade Development Company will be created instead of agencies and funds operating in this area. It will attract qualified specialists from abroad to ensure that domestic products meet international standards, support exporters and promote national brands. Subsidies, compensation and other types of support will be provided based on the sustainability rating of entrepreneurs.

Interaction between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Uzbekexpertiza will be strengthened, and project offices will be opened in each district to support entrepreneurs.

The President noted that business development is a priority of economic reforms, and outlined his vision of tasks in the field of supporting entrepreneurs. The importance of studying the relevance of the functions of associations and improving the qualifications of their leaders is emphasized.

The need to organize work primarily in the regions and actively involve entrepreneurs in the development of new projects and exports was pointed out.

Those in charge reported plans to increase local industry exports to US$12 billion this year.
