Uzbek President participates in CSTO, CIS summits
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 December, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated at the session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the session of the Heads of States Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Heads of the member-states of the organization participated at the CSTO summit. During the session, the CSTO leaders discussed implementation of decisions of the Security Council of the CSTO and issues on improving collective security of the organization.

After the negotiations, the participants signed documents on increasing efficiency of the system of crisis response, as well as some other documents, including the CSTO Declaration.

On the same day, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov participated at the session of the Heads of States Council of the CIS.

President of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev, President of Armenia Serj Sargsyan, President of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbaev, Interim President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbaeva, Vice Premier and Economy Minister of Moldavia Valeriu Lazăr, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich participated at the summit.

During the summit, the sides considered some issues and documents, directed at boosting cooperation among the CIS states, mainly in economic and humanitarian spheres. Participants of the summit also discussed development of draft agreement on free trade zone.
