Uzbek President opens “Ancient and Eternal Bukhara” monument
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited Bukhara on 30 August, where he got acquainted with the newly built Bukhoro Madaniy Markazi (Bukhara Cultural Center) complex.

Bukhara, which has a history of more than 25 centuries, is one of the ancient and at the same time eternally young cities, that has made a great contribution to the development of the world civilization, UzA reported.

The city has been known for centuries as a cradle of science, enlightenment and culture. During the years of the country’s independence, Bukhara has also seen significant transformations.

As a result of the socioeconomic reforms, which are centered on the people’s interests, the industrial potential of Bukhara region has increased, living conditions have improved and the cities and villages of the region are becoming more and more beautiful.

The new complex, Bukhara Cultural Center, occupies 107 hectares and consists of a regional musical drama theater for 700 seats, and amphitheater for 2,000 people and a monument “Ancient and Eternal Bukhara”.

The 18-meter-high monument, built on the initiative of the head of the state, was created by a famous sculptor, honored worker of arts of Uzbekistan, academician of the Arts academy Ilhom Jabbarov.

The sacred land of Bukahra has raised such great thinkers as Abu Ali ibn SIno, Narshakhi, Imam Bukhari, Abdulholik Gijduvani, Bahouddin Naqshband, Khodja Orif Revgari and others. Their names are written in gold letters on the monument.

The monument also has writings in Uzbek, Arab and English languages, which state that searching for knowledge is a duty for every Muslim, man and woman, and that the soul should be with Allah and the hands in work.

Getting acquainted with the “Ancient and Eternal Bukhara” monument, the President said Bukhara had become a great city thanks to its hard-working and self-sacrificing people.

The stone-carved composition on the monument’s pedestal depicts three generations and embodies the eternity of life. The first group is a happy young family, the second part shows a grandfather planting a tree with his grandchild, and on the third a father and a son are building a house.

The composition’s philosophy is that the life is eternal and every person should do good, noble deeds remain after people, and the person should think about the future.

“Every visitor to Bukhara, who is interested in the life of the local people, will make his or her own conclusions from the ideas embodied in this monument,” President Islam Karimov said.

“These ideas should be widely promoted, especially among the young people. Because we lean on our independently thinking children and youth in building our great future,” the head of the state stressed.

The 5-meter and 32-tons rotating globe standing on the pedestal is seen from long distance. It depicts a map of Uzbekistan, meaning that the country with proclaiming independence has become a full-fledged member of the world community.

Visiting the new theater building at the complex, Islam Karimov noted that such modern cultural establishments contribute to raising the artistic taste and cultural level of the people.

“The theater is a center of upbringing young people. We pay priority attention to protect our youth from the influence of various ideological threats and destructive forces,” he emphasized.

The theater has a great role in forming such qualities in people as kindness, patriotism and love to Motherland. The theater should promote figures of modern heroes, strengthening the youth’s belief in future, the President said.

On the same day, the head of the state visited the memorial complex of Bahouddin Naqshband.
