Uzbek President instructs to develop a program for the development of jewelry production until 2027

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was given a presentation on measures to further develop the jewelry industry, support the production and sale of jewelry, as well as increase the export of finished products.

Uzbekistan has significant potential for expanding production and export of jewelry.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that currently only 6% of the gold mined in the country is processed, and the volume of product exports is only US$78 million. Therefore, it is extremely important to create jewelry zones with special conditions for entrepreneurs, revise the supply of raw materials for the industry, improve the training of specialists, optimize production processes and sales system.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance, together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, developed relevant proposals.

In particular, the expansion of the powers of the Uzbekzargarsanoati association and the reorganization of its management system are being considered.

To support manufacturers, it is proposed to extend the benefits provided for members of the Hunarmand Association to individual entrepreneurs - jewelry manufacturers, also members of Uzbekzargarsanoati.

The possibility of establishing, for a period until 1 October 2026, a zero rate of customs duty and value added tax on equipment, packaging and labeling materials that are not produced in Uzbekistan and are used in the jewelry industry is being studied.

The issues of creating special jewelry centers, including production, exhibition and trading areas, were also discussed.

Information was presented on pilot projects that are planned to be implemented in Tashkent and Namangan region.

The issue of increasing the volume of jewelry exports was also considered. In particular, the possibility of establishing a zero customs duty rate for the export of jewelry produced in Uzbekistan to the United States of America under the GSP system is being considered.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to finalize the presented measures and develop a program for the development of domestic jewelry production until 2027.
