Uzbek President highlights key outcomes of productive cooperation with IPU

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 April, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), including IPU President Tuila’epa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and Secretary General Martin Chungong.

The guests warmly congratulated the President on the successful hosting of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent and praised his substantive speech at the plenary session of the forum.

It was particularly emphasized that hosting such a large-scale international event in Uzbekistan, along with active support for the proposed initiatives, is recognition from the global community of the deep and irreversible reforms taking place under the "New Uzbekistan" concept, particularly in the field of parliamentary development.

The meeting acknowledged the high dynamics and practical results of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In recent years, significant joint initiatives have been organized, including the parliamentary forum on achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Bukhara and the 14th Summit of Women Parliamentarians, held in Tashkent.

Furthermore, with Uzbekistan’s support, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a special resolution dedicated to strengthening the role of parliaments in implementing the SDG agenda.

During the meeting, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy was highlighted as an effective tool for strengthening peace and trust between countries, expanding legislative work in strategically important areas such as "green" development and artificial intelligence, and involving women and youth in parliamentary activities.

At the end of the conversation, for his significant contribution to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the active promotion of parliamentary diplomacy tasks, the President of Uzbekistan presented IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong with the "Dostlik" (Friendship) Order.

It is worth noting that Uzbekistan resumed its participation in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2017 and is currently actively represented in its executive bodies.
