Uzbek President criticizes the work of khokims in several districts

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized the work of khokims (local governors) in several districts for the lack of results in implementing investment projects.

During a sectoral meeting attended by the president, it was noted that agreements totaling US$2.3 billion were reached at the Global Tourism Investment Forum in Samarkand last year. However, progress on several projects is slow.

In particular, lands for projects in the Namangan, Andijan, Tashkent, Khorezm, and Ferghana regions, as well as in the capital, have not yet been determined.

It was pointed out that in Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions, no projects have been proposed to foreign partners.

However, there are positive results in Shakhrisabz district, where foreign investors have begun construction of a ski resort on an area of 3,000 hectares between the villages of Gelon and Sarchashma, as well as the creation of a tourist zone in the village of Miraki.

Khokims of the Akhangaran, Urgut, Yangikurgan, Pap, Chartak, and Bakhmal districts were criticized for their lack of initiative in promoting projects.

The head of Uzbekistan also criticized the khokim of Tashkent city for the absence of proposals for tourism development in the city.

The deputy khokim of Tashkent for tourism development, F. Davrukov, has been relieved of his position.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan has been instructed to evaluate the work of all deputy khokims regarding tourism.
