Uzbek President amends law on provision of pensions, labour code
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to law of Uzbekistan “On state pension provision of the citizens” and Labour Code of Uzbekistan” on 22 December 2010. Legislative Chamber passed the law on 26 November and Senate approves it on 3 December 2010.

The document was developed in line with the order of the President of Uzbekistan from 19 November 2009. The law’s main aim is to link the size of pensions from deposits of the citizens to formation of funds at off-budget Pension Fund, ensuring balancing its income and expenses.

The law is directed at further improving current pension provision system through introducing changes and amendments to pension legislation on accounting labour record, presenting preferential pension, terms, appointment, transfer and payment of pension.

In line with the law, disabled people of third group, who get this status after 1 January 2011, will not receive pension, but they will keep preferences on employment, receiving technical or other means, consuming transport or other services.

The law also sets minimum labour service, which will be required to get pension at non-full labour service. It also regulates issues on preschedule pension, etc.

The document also introduces changes and amendments to Labour Code, which provide employers to abolish contract with employee, who reached pension age. In line with amendments, the employer should inform employee about abolishment of contract a month prior. The employer will also pay compensation for abolishment of agreement.
