Uzbekistan 10/02/2011 Uzbek Preisdent holds meetings with Japanese officials

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met the Emperor of Japan Akihito, Prime Minister Naoto Kan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Seiji Maehara in Tokyo on 9 February.

During the talks, the sides stated that the Uzbek-Japanese relations had been developing consistently, and that the approaches and views on many dimensions of mutual cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral basis had been similar.

The sides expressed their high appraisal of the traditionally friendly and steady partnership ties in the political, trade and economic, investment, scientific and technological, cultural and humanitarian spheres, UzA reported.

The meetings and talks proved significant prospects of cooperation in the domain of high technologies, and modernization and diversification of economy, where a robust investment potential had been taking practical implementation in a number of projects.

Uzbek-Japanese and Japanese-Uzbek committees for economic cooperation have proved crucial in the development of bilateral ties. The two committees convened for a joint meeting on the eve of President Islam Karimov’s visit to Tokyo. The outcomes of the business forum have once again testified the growing interest of the Japanese business circles to the investment potential of Uzbekistan.

At the end of the negotiations, Islam Karimov and Naoto Kan signed a Joint Statement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Japan. Other signed documents included the Memorandum between the foreign ministries on economic cooperation in implementing projects in the framework of Official Development Assistance program and others.
