Uzbek-Polish trade turnover may hit US$150m in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Poland may exceed US$150 million in the result of 2011, the head of the Department on assisting trade and investment of Poland Embassy in Tashkent Slawomir Strzalkowski said.

The press release of the department said that Polish-Uzbek trade and economic relations continued expand and grow in 2011.

Slawomir Strzalkowski noted that trade turnover between two states reached US$131 million in ten months of 2011 in line with the Polish statistics.

This figure is higher than 2010 results, which made up US$129 million. The growth rate made up 31% year-on-year.

The volume of exports of Poland to Uzbekistan made up US$92 million in ten months of 2011, which grew 1.5 times year-on-year.

Highest growth of exports are observed in such goods groups as “Live animals and products from animals” – 6.1 times, “Products from plants” – 2.4 times, “Mineral products” – 2 times, “Non-precious stone and products from them” – 2.2 times, “Chemical products” – 1.5 times, “Metering equipment, medical equipment and their belongings” – 38% and “Machines and equipment” – 20%, etc.

The department said that structure of Polish exports to Uzbekistan changed compared to 2010. Share of cattle increased from 6% to 24%. Share of chemical products in exports volume reached 19%. Exports of machines and equipment remained at the 23% level. About 10% of exports made up vehicles, their parts and equipment, 5.6% - furniture and other timber products. Share of food products shrunk up to 4%.

The press release said that the import of Uzbekistan diversified further. Uzbekistan increased exports of ready food products, alcohol and soft drinks, share of which in total imports reached 3%.Exports of chemical goods from Uzbekistan to Poland rose by 32% in ten months of 2011 and their share grew from 26% to 34%. Share of exports of mineral products to Poland makes up 45%, and textile goods – 18%. This shows increasing interest to products from Uzbekistan in Poland and growing potential of Uzbek goods in external markets, the department said.

The department noted that the Polish businesses also interested in creation joint enterprises and production capacities in Uzbekistan. The Polish firms are holding talks with their Uzbek counterparts on large number of projects in key sectors of economy of Uzbekistan.
