Uzbek leader sets bodies, authorized to issue apostille
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov determined bodies, which have authority to issue apostille in Uzbekistan.

Uzbek leader signed a resolution “On measures on implementation of clauses of the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Hague, 5 October 1961)” on 5 July 2011.

According to document, Justice Ministry of Uzbekistan will put apostille to official documents of courts and justice bodies.

Apostille on official documents of prosecutors, investigation and inquiry bodies will be put by the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Uzbekistan.

State Center for testing under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan is authorized to put apostille on official documents of education and science organizations, the document said.

Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan will be responsible for putting apostille on all other official documents.

President ordered Ministry for Foreign Affairs to notify depository of the Convention - Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands – about bodies, authorized to issue apostille.

As reported earlier, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Hague, 5 October 1961)” on 4 April 2011.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 27 January 2011 and Senate approved the document on 25 March 2011.

Accession to Hague Convention will allow to legalize official documents, issued abroad, with one actions – putting apostille to document by the authorized body.

The procedure will simplify document turnover and decrease terms of providing official documents by legal entities and individuals of Uzbekistan and acknowledging them in the member states of the Convention.

The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. The document was signed in Hague on 5 October 1961.

It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states. Such a certification is called an apostille (French: certification). It is an international certification comparable to a notarisation in domestic law.
