Uzbek-Japanese dialogue considers Aral problem
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Aral catastrophe, which has global impact, should be solved not only by efforts of one country and all international community, experts of Uzbekistan and Japan said during conference at the Japanese parliament.

Chairperson of Fund for International Assistance to Asia Tokohura said drying of Aral Sea is global problem. Illness of the region’s people is connected with it. Uzbekistan carries out measures to improve lives of population of Aral Sea basin, but this problem should be solved not only by efforts of one country, but by international community.

He said that fair distribution and effective use of trans-boundary rivers plays important role for population of Aral Sea and economy of Uzbekistan. He said that those, who want use resources of trans-boundary rivers thoughtless, should hear of pains and agony of the region’s population.

In his turn, director of Civil Research Institute, Professor of Kyoto-Gakuen Institute and Kyoto University Ishida said Aral Sea problem is one of important ecological problems of 20-21th centuries. Aral Sea catastrophe is wide-scale and requires huge financial expenses. He said that small projects, but effective ones, should be realized. He added that projects should focus on solving problems related to increasing salt in drinking water, water processing and rational use.
