An Uzbek citizen recently extradited from Kazakhstan has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on charges of terrorism, a source at the Tashkent Regional Court told Interfax on Thursday.

"Religious extremist and an active member of an international terrorist organization Riskul Kulbekov has been sentenced to 20 years in custody," the source said.

Kulbekov, a native of the Tashkent region, was sentenced in absentia in 1998 for an attempt to illegally cross the Tajik border. Investigators said he formed a group and taught them jihad. Kulbekov was trained in a terrorist camp in Pakistan, returned to Kazakhstan, and started sending criminals and terrorists to Uzbekistan in 2003.
