Uzbek head amends law on “On railway transport”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to law of Uzbekistan “On railway transport”, directed at ensuring security of railway transportations” on 8 September 2011.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 27 July 2011 and Senate approved it on 26 August 2011.

The law is directed at ensuring security at railway transportation. The law helps to improve legislative base and law enforcement practice in the area of ensuring security at railway transportation objects, preventing emergency situations, creating threat to life and health of people, public security and stability of the state.

The law sets special order of passenger inspections at stations and platforms to prevent terrorism and other illegal acts, strengthen public order in places, and prevent delivery of dangerous cargos and explosives to railway stations.

The amendments say that passengers and their luggage will be examined at the entrance to railway stations to ensure security of people and railway workers. Those, who refuse to undergo examination, will not be allowed to enter stations.

It added that the Government of Uzbekistan will set order of examination of passengers and their luggage, as well as responsible bodies for inspection.
