Uzbek Govn’t may reconsider social norms for energy consumption for consumers without gas

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Uzbekistan may reconsider the social norms for energy consumption for residents of remote regions not connected to gas supply. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Kuchkarov, at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

Deputy Doniyor Ganiev pointed out the dissatisfaction of the population with the current social limits, which do not take into account the needs of residents using electricity for heating due to the lack of natural gas.

It is worth noting that in Uzbekistan, social norms for gas and electricity consumption were introduced from 1 May 2024.

Jamshid Kuchkarov explained that one-third of households in Uzbekistan do not have access to natural gas and are forced to buy coal and firewood at market prices. He also noted the possibility of purchasing certain volumes of coal at fixed prices.

"The issue of providing a social discount for households deprived of gas supply is raised. We consider this issue important, especially in the winter period. We will take note of it, conduct analysis, consultations, and later provide the results," Kuchkarov said.

Doniyor Ganiev emphasized that increasing the social limit will significantly ease the lives of hundreds of thousands of citizens. He stressed the need for developing a systematic solution to this issue.
