Uzbek Govn’t adopts programme on tourism development in Karakalpakstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan adopted a programme of targeted measures on developing of tourism and increasing export potential of tourism service in 2011-2012 in Karakalpakstan.

Within the approved programme, it is planned to conduct works on developing tourism infrastructure of Karakalpakstan, develop new tourism routes, promote historic-cultural objects, train and improve skills of specialists in tourism, the press service of Uzbektourism said.

Karakalpakstan is unique region, which stores mystery of history at its sights, culture and life style of Karakalpak people, in natural landscape and green city oazis.

Ancient fortresses Kyrg-Kyz, Ayaz-Kala, Janbas-Kala, Ichan Kala mausoleum, unique Toprak-Kala ancient settlement and other historic-archeological monuments, located in Karakalpakstan, represent huge scientific and cultural interest for local and foreign tourists.

In order to create comfortable conditions for tourists, in line with the programme, it is planned to construct new hotels. In particular, new hotels will be built in Nukus and Turtkul district, while Nukus Hotel in capital city of Karakalpakstan will be reconstructed. Currently, six tourism organizations render hotel services in Karakalpakstan.

Development of economic tourism became important part of the programme. Karakalpakstan has unique landscape as major part of its territory occupy plains, switching to Ustyurt plateau, hilly chain of Karakums in southern-western part, mountains of Sultan-Uays in southern-eastern region.

To attract ecotourism admirers, it is planned to construct ecotourism infrastructure in Akcha Kul zone of Ellikala district, tourism complex and ethnographic park at Ustyurt zone of Kungrad, as well as develop new routes of ecotourism, including visits to popular tourism objects such as former port of Aral sea in Muynak.

There will be also measures directed of pilgrimage tourism. Karakalpakstan has historic-archeological complexes Mizdakhan and Sultan Vays, which are attractive for piligrims. The programme includes measures on developing new routes for pilgrims from neighboring states and development of infrastructure.

The programme also pays attention to main sight of Nukus city – Karakalpak State Museum named after Savitsky, which has over 84,000 exhibits. The museum possesses unique decorative-applied and fine art works, which speaks about history of the region. Preparation of advertisement-information materials about the museum will help to familiarize tourists with important milestones of cultural development of Karakalpakstan.

Uzbektourism underlined that implementation of the programme with budget of US$5.8 million will become important step in promotion of tourism potential of Karakalpakstan and attraction of additional tourists to the region.
