Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On extension of terms on step-by-step introduction of new samples of the state registration number plates for vehicles” on 3 December 2010.

The resolution of the government approved proposal of Uzbekistan Interior Ministry on prolongation of terms of introduction of new number plates till 1 January 2013.

Earlier, the Government of Uzbekistan was planning to transfer to new number samples of state registration number plates by 1 January 2011.

Uzbekistan started to introduce new number plates on voluntary basis from 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. From the second quarter of 2009, the government launched mandatory introduction of new plates for all registered and re-registered vehicles.

Introduction of new plates are directed at bringing the national number plates into line with the international ones, matching electronic registration and accounting system, as well as prevent forgery and illegal use of plates.
