Economy 22/09/2008 Uzbek electricity to reach Afghan capital in five months - minister

Construction work, which commenced 18 months ago, has completed in the Pol-e Khomri substation. The project cost 2.5 million euros, National Afghanistan TV reported on 18 September.

While visiting the substation along with his accompanying delegation, the minister of water and energy said the construction of a power transmission line had been completed in Afghanistan and the provinces of Balkh, Baghlan, Parwan, Kapisa and Kabul would receive electricity from Uzbekistan in the next five months.

According to him, work is currently under way to install a 43-km power transmission line in Uzbekistan under a five-month agreement, and 19m dollars has already been spent for this project.

Meanwhile, Governor of Baghlan Province Abdol Jabar Haqbin, who was accompanying the minister, said apart from Pol-e Khomri five other districts of this province would benefit from Uzbekistan’s electricity.
