Uzbekistan 27/04/2007 Uzbek delegates participated in intl training on the MDG in Germany

United Nations Resident Coordinator Office Representatives and MDG Volunteers visited Berlin, Germany during March 21-April 1 to participate in International project  "The world is too round to sit silently in the corner". The representatives of four countries: Loesje International in Germany, The Creative Group MYSTYLE art in Latvia, FLEX/Alumni Association of Kazakhstan and the MDG Youth Network from Uzbekistan participated and shared their best practices in working with youth and the development issues.

The current training gathered more than 40 young people from both developed and developing countries to reflect their vision on future youth activities in achieving the Millennium Development Goals in every corner of the world. The overall aim of the workshop was to give young people an opportunity  to meet together and exchange their cultural views and give them an understanding of equal rights and opportunities for all people on the planet.

At the beginning of the workshop, young representatives delivered presentations on their youth activities in each participating countries. Moreover, Ted Van Hees from Oxfam International delivered valuable speech on the Millennium Development Goals from global perspectives and explained what the priorities of doing actions toward them are. He emphasized that most of the people living under poverty level in poor countries like Africa could be saved if debt cancellations were enforced by developed world.

The next day covered the issues of informational materials: writing creative texts and taking professional photos. The Creative MYSTYLE art group from Latvia organized a photography workshop and explained how to fix techniques to take good quality photos. Young people had an opportunity to take photos in real life with professionals and discuss the challenges while working with camera. The second part of the day was busy with creating very interesting slogans to the taken photos by participants.

Participants also had an opportunity to learn the basics for leading national and local campaigns in their own countries. Initially, representatives of MYSTYLE art group from Latvia introduced peers how to write press-releases and cover the issues related to youth activities. They stressed the importance of taking into consideration the audience profiles and interests.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office representatives delivered presentations on how to work with MDGs and youth. They outlined that participation of youth is necessary to achieve the MDGs and that both developed and developing world should unify their efforts to go straight forward and get valuable results. The main part of the presentation was to explain rules of conducting local MDG campaigns and how to deal with operational activities which demand comprehensive attention.

The project is aimed at reaching young people through informational campaign and during the workshop participants were introduced to the techniques of using Adobe In Design Programmes that will create a floor to open all their fresh ideas through design. 
The Informational campaign workshop in Berlin was interesting with excursions, when trainees were not busy with their tasks. Moreover, representatives of four countries played a competition on preparing their national foods and serving them during dinner time. Uzbek delegates showed all their talents in cooking and prepared national food "palov" and "dimlama". At the end of the dinner they showed video-spot about Uzbekistan and its sightseeing places.

At the last day, Loesje International organized an exhibition to evaluate taken photos and creative texts that accompanied each photo. Most of the young delegates shared their views and exchanged their contacts for future joint activities.

The project is aimed at spreading information about the Millennium Development Goals to young people through local information campaigns in Kathmandu-Nepal; Almaty-Kazakhstan; Tashkent-Uzbekistan; Riga-Latvia and Berlin-Germany. The current project was elaborated with joint effort of participating countries and with initiative of Loesje International in Germany, underlining the significance of achieving the Millennium Development Goals for both developed and developing countries and reflecting the vision of youth at the global and national levels.
