Uzbek dance art studied in the United States

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On August 12, 2019, a three-day program to study Uzbek dance art was launched in Washington, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The event, which is being held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington, is attended by about 20 participants from the District of Columbia, the states of Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Kentucky and others.

According to the Embassy, a well-known dancer and choreographer, People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Kizlarhon Dustmukhamedova arrived to conduct trainings in Washington. She, an exquisite performer of national dances "Munojot", "Tanovar", "Intizor", "Star of Bukhara" and others, shares her skills with young American colleagues.

The three-day training program envisages training in the features and elements of traditional Uzbek dance and other countries of Central Asia, as well as a master class in playing the doira, a seminar on the history and culture of our people.

The co-organizer of the event from the American side was the famous scientist, head of the Silk Road Dance Company, who devoted her life to the dances of the countries of the Great Silk Road Laurel Gray. In 1984, she founded the Uzbek Society of Dance and Culture, and 10 years later established the annual Central Asian Dance Camp. She was awarded International Prizes at the contests “Best Choreography” and “Best Ethnic Dancer”.

Laurel Gray visited Uzbekistan many times, including living for two years at the invitation of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater in Tashkent and performed in television dance programs. She was also a member of the jury of such festivals as “Raqs sehri” (“Magic of Dance”), “Sharq Taronalari” (“Melody of the East”) and others.
