Uzbek citizen detained in Istanbul for photographing woman without her consent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 April, an Uzbek citizen was detained in Istanbul after taking a photograph of a Turkish woman in the metro without her consent. The woman reported the incident to the authorities, and an investigation was launched, according to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.

The man's actions were classified as a violation of personal privacy. As a result, his work permit was revoked, and administrative measures were initiated against him, including the process of forced deportation.

According to the Consulate, the man avoided criminal charges due to the intervention of Uzbek diplomats.

The Consulate also reminded that under Turkish law, photographing or recording other people—especially women—without their consent is strictly prohibited. Such violations can lead to criminal prosecution under Article 134 of the Turkish Penal Code, which includes possible imprisonment.
