Uzbek cinema industry discusses changes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent Cinema House hosted an event dedicated to discussion development of national cinema industry, growth of young directors and ways of development of the industry on 24 May 2013.

The discussion was attended by representatives of Uzbekkino (Uzbek Cinema), directors, actors, producers, script-writers, operators, and others. Chairperson of Trustee Council of Fund Forum Gulnara Karimova also participated at the event. Gulnara Karimov participated at the event as Fund Forum and Forum of Social Responsible Citizens received many applications from directors, actors, producers, operators and representatives of private studios.

Gulnara Karimov noted that each creative person is engaged only with their business and they are not united. She added that they rarely meet each other and it is difficult to collect them in one place. She added that as experience of developed countries shows, it is necessary to unite to overcome crisis, stagnation, and to understand existing problems.

It is no secret that modern Uzbek films, especially commercial films, are directed at collecting money and are actively criticized by both professionals and ordinary people.

During the meeting, the participants discussed development of cinema industry, production of films and quality of them.

It was noted that the films should be different as the audience will fed up from similar films. It was said that it is necessary to have serious films, which would deliver general national values to population and entertainment films.

Gulnara Karimov admitted that after launch of Tashkent International Cinema Forum she watches all films, produced in Uzbekistan, and there are both films with good content and without any idea.

She added that she likes ambitious of young creative persons and they say that they will shot super film and won an Oscar. At the same time, they do not know about classic Uzbek films. They want to shot super film without knowledge on history, she added.

It was noted that young authors are not improving their knowledge in cinema industry and history and in the result there are mistakes in films, ethnographic details and clothes, live in the regions.

Karimov said that the cinema industry only started to use national topic and there are some heroes with straight hairs at mountainous area. She added that there are some questions to director and stylists. There are also mistakes in national costumes. She called directors to staudy ethnography and costumes.

There are also critics of Uzbekkino agency. State cinema studious said that there are difficulties,w which hinder to shot high quality films. It was said that many directors, script writers, operators and actors are without work for two months as Uzekkino is not approving scenarios.

It was also noted that there are problems with launch of films to distribution. At the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekkino should ensure transparency of decision making process. There were also some cases when commission members approved films of their relatives.

The participants also proposed to include members of private cinema studios, professional directors and actors to the structure of the creative council of Uzbekkino, which currently includes only representatives of the state bodies. It was also proposed to develop regulation on process of approving films, which would set terms of consideration of films.

It was also proposed to include representatives of public to the process of consideration of films by the creative commission of Uzbekkino.

Gulnara Karimov underlined that local cinema industry is on threshold of changes and it is necessary to unite all those, who work in cinema industry to ensure that these changes are positive.

At the end of the meeting, the participants signed protocol of the meeting, which includes all proposals and recommendations of the session.
