According to the Central Bank, these loans were issued to population to build habitation, purchase or reconstruct flats.
As of 1 September 2013, about 58,500 families received mortgage loans and the balance of mortgage loans of the commercial banks made up 2.379 trillion soums.
Currently, the commercial banks of Uzbekistan are financing construction of 105 apartment buildings in the regions of Uzbekistan, which will be sold to young families with mortgage loans. The loans are issued with three-year grace period at the rate, which does not exceed refinancing rate of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan recalled that young families do not pay income tax when they receive mortgage loans.
Uzbekistan has been implementing a programme on construction of individual houses in rural areas. In 2009-2012, over 650 new rural blocks with 23,600 individual houses with total area of 3.2 million square meters were constructed. Over US$1.2 billion were invested to this programme.
Currently, Uzbekistan continues construction of houses within the programme. It is planned to construct 10,000 houses with total area of 1.4 million square meters. Uzbek banks will direct 1.385 trillion soums to construction of these houses.
It is worth to mention that families, who purchase these houses, receive various tax breaks.
