Uzbek banks issue consumer loans for 87bn soums in 1H
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Commercial banks of Uzbekistan issued consumer loans for 87 billion soums in the first half of 2012, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.

The measures, adopted to liberalize activities of commercial banks, led to expansion of allocation of consumer loans and simplification of crediting procedures. Currently, commercial banks can receive loans for purchase of transport, real estate, electronics, etc. The banks take into account financial abilities of debtors in setting terms and interests on loans.

Central Bank said that currently commercial banks are implementing worth 272 billion soums directed at social protection of young families, rendering them financial and moral support, including providing habitation. In 2012-2013, the commercial banks are planning to finance construction of 100 houses with 48 flats in each. The citizens can obtain mortgage loans to buy these flats for 15 years under interest rate equal to refinancing rate of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (currently 12% APR).

The concrete measures on improving well-being of young families were adopted. In particular, the commercial banks issues loans up to 200 size of minimal salary for three years on soft interest rate to purchase consumer goods of long use, which were produced in Uzbekistan.

In line with the governmental resolution “On additional measures on improving social-domestic conditions of families, the banks realize complex of measures directed at expanding existing capacities on production of electronics, consumer crediting.

This year, commercial banks will issue at least 30 billion soums of consumer loans to population to purchase electronics. These loans are issued at the size up to 50 size of minimal salary for three years.

The Central Bank said that banks are issuing loans in all regions of Uzbekistan, which also create conditions for increasing number of clients and rendering of financial services in all regions of the country.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan said that the commercial banks are working on issuing express loans, the regulator said.

The Central Bank also said that the banks should revise interest rates and further develop banking infrastructure to ensure expansion of scale of consumer loans.
