Uzbek banks issue 3.2 trln. soums to small businesses in Jan-Sep
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Commercial banks of Uzbekistan issued loans for 3.2 trillion soums in nine months of 2011 to expand the volume of preferential loans, issued to subjects of entrepreneurship. The growth rate made up 1.5 times year-on-year.

The press release of the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan said that about 30% of these funds were directed to purchase modern technologies.

In nine months of 2011, within the implementation of the regional investment programmes for 2011 (including additional projects) some US$517.6 million were attracted on 994 projects, including foreign direct investments for US$226.7 million.

Within the targeted part of Investment Programme, six commercial banks of Uzbekistan attracted US$99.2 million from international financial institutions on 16 investment projects, or forecasted volume was executed for 130%.

In the result of wide-scale support of small industrial enterprises, provided preferences and benefits, Uzbekistan launched 828 small enterprises in industry sector in nine months of 2011, which are equipped with modern technologies.

In the result, the growth of industrial goods in small business sector exceeded general temps of industrial output by 3.8 times and made up 26.5% in nine months of 2011. Small businesses ensured 70% growth of industrial production in Uzbekistan.

Small businesses also play important role in employment of population. In 2011, the small businesses and entrepreneurship will create over 612,400 jobs or 64% of all created works in Uzbekistan.

The analysis showed that support of small businesses helped to increase their share in Gross Domestic Product of Uzbekistan from 52.5% in 2010 to 54% in 2011, industrial output – from 21.1% to 22.9%, investments – from 28.5% to 30% and paid services to population – from 47% to 48%.
