Uzbek Ambassador presents credentials to President of the European Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 November 2024, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the European Union, Gayrat Fazilov, presented his credentials to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The ceremony was accompanied by discussions on upcoming events and key aspects of Uzbek-European cooperation, according to the Dunyo news agency.

President Michel highly praised the current level of interaction with Uzbekistan and Central Asia as a whole. He particularly emphasized that the pragmatic and friendly approach of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been a catalyst for positive transformations in the region, contributing to the consolidation of efforts for sustainable development and prosperity.

Charles Michel highlighted the achievements of recent years, noting that joint efforts have led to a new level of dynamic and mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union. The European Union places great importance on further strengthening bilateral relations with Uzbekistan.

It is noteworthy that Ambassador Fazilov arrived in Brussels on 5 December 2023. From 2015 to 2017 and from 2021 to 2023, he served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. On 7 February 2024, he presented his credentials to King Philippe of Belgium.

Gayrat Fazilov succeeded Dilyor Khakimov, who represented Uzbekistan in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg from 2017 to 2023 and also led Uzbekistan’s missions to the European Union and NATO in Brussels.
