Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A new stage in the development of high-tech production, which includes a complex system of local production of components, was marked by the solemn launch of the production of a full cycle of the Chevrolet Onix car at the UzAuto Motors plant in the city of Asaka.

Today, UzAuto Motors is switching to the production of only the most modern cars - and the next of them is the Chevrolet Onix. More than 5 thousand engineers were involved in the introduction of the production of a new car model, some of which are graduates of the Turin Polytechnic University of Tashkent, who launched the production of 1.5 thousand parts for the Chevrolet Onix car at 200 enterprises in Uzbekistan.

The new Onix is built on the Global Emerging Markets (GEM) platform, which is also built on the Chevrolet Tracker. Investments in the amount of US$427.6 million were invested in the development of this project. The engineering potential and technical equipment of enterprises have already made it possible to bring the localization of the Chevrolet Onix car to 50%, the level of which will be increased to 70% by the end of the year.

To organize the production of the Onix car in Uzbekistan, Uzavtosanoat implemented 12 new localization projects, including new factories and high-tech production lines totaling US$$312 million. The introduction of new production facilities created about 4.5 thousand new jobs.

The localization of the engine, one of the most important components of the car, was carried out at the UzAuto Motors Powertrain enterprise, which increases the overall percentage of localizations of Chevrolet Onix and Tracker cars. The adoption of the innovative CSS Prime engine family, using advanced high-pressure aluminum cylinder block technology, provides the engine with better heat dissipation and environmental friendliness. A distinctive characteristic of these engines is high manufacturability, low fuel consumption and the presence of a turbine. By attracting local specialists and optimizing capital expenditures for the purchase of production line equipment, it was possible to reduce the cost of the project by about US$20 million.

The production of cast iron parts was launched at a new, built from scratch, KOVA Foundry foundry in Andijan region.

In order to develop new types of products with high added value, the enterprise implemented the most advanced and new technologies for the industry, including all cycles of metal processing: melting, casting, molding and high-precision machining. An enterprise with a capacity of 18 thousand tons per year increases the added value of raw materials up to 10 times and replaces the import of parts by US$21 million.

As part of the localization program, the enterprises of the UzAuto structure launched the production of radiators with a modern engine cooling system, a Joyson Safety Systems multifunctional steering wheel with car control and airbag functions, as well as modern and safe plastic gas tanks using a unique technology. In addition, UzKoram-Co LLC mastered the production of side mirrors for Chevrolet Onix and Tracker cars.

In addition, for the first time, the production and processing of plastic and rubber parts was launched using modern methods, including the use of extrusion. Also, ultrasonic welding of plastic parts and two-component plastic injection molding have been introduced, which can achieve high tightness and shock or vibration absorption.

Modernization also touched upon the production of body parts by hot stamping. The organization of the only fully automated metal processing workshop in Central Asia by hot stamping at the UzSungwoo plant made it possible to localize 20 types of components for the Chevrolet Tracker and Onix models, replacing imports worth about 214.5 billion soums. The new UzSungwoo metal hot processing line, designed according to the latest technologies, is equipped with equipment for cutting, hot pressing and laser cutting of metal from leading global suppliers and allows for the production of 2.4 million metal products and saves investments by reducing the number of required tooling to 5 once.

“The development of the production of such a technological product, of course, forms a significant layer of highly qualified specialists in Uzbekistan. The high culture of production and management at the enterprises of the UzAuto structure will give a new impetus to the development of not only the automotive industry and many other related industries.” - Shavkat Umurzakov, Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat, noted in his speech.

The introduction of innovative production technologies also affected the production capacities of the direct UzAuto Motors plant in Asaka. In addition to the main production units, the company launched a laser welding process, which, compared to other welding methods, has higher accuracy, increased resistance to corrosion and wear of the weld, as well as aesthetics, a high degree of energy saving and environmental protection in production.

The implemented projects have created all the conditions for the further development of the automotive industry in Uzbekistan and bringing the volume of car production to 500,000 units per year.

Chevrolet Onix is a modern car that meets the highest standards. The car, the popularity of which exceeded all expectations long before the start of its production in Uzbekistan. The new model combines striking design, modern interior and all the necessary features for comfort and safety.

Onix cars are presented with two types of engines of the new generation CSS Prime:
