Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has arrived in Uzbekistan for an official visit.
During his two-day trip, he held key meetings with government officials, scientific institutions, and medical centers across the country.
In the morning, Mr. Grossi met with Azim Akhmedkhodjaev, Director of the Agency for Atomic Energy of Uzbekistan, to discuss prospects for cooperation and joint initiatives in nuclear energy. The discussion emphasized the importance of the safe and effective use of nuclear technologies.
Additionally, the Director General visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology. During these visits, opportunities for applying nuclear technologies in medicine and scientific research were explored.
On 5 December 2024, Mr. Grossi will participate in a conference in historic Samarkand. The event will focus on "Prospects for the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy for Sustainable Development of OIC Member States: International and National Experiences."
The conference will bring together leading experts and representatives from various countries to discuss the peaceful use of nuclear energy and its role in sustainable development. The event will serve as a platform for exchanging best practices and innovative solutions in the field.
Mr. Grossi’s visit highlights the importance of international collaboration in nuclear energy and reinforces efforts to harness nuclear technologies for achieving sustainable development goals.
