Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 November 2024, during Uzbekistan’s participation at EXPO-2024 in Shanghai, the Uzbek Agency for Atomic Energy (UzAtom) met with Wei Fuki, the General Director of CNOS, a subsidiary of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), to discuss collaborative opportunities.
During the meeting, both parties outlined key areas for bilateral cooperation and explored possibilities for joint projects in nuclear energy, focusing on long-term partnerships.
The discussions resulted in an agreement on mutual cooperation with CNNC in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The parties also discussed the potential for Uzbekistan to adopt China’s expertise in nuclear power plant (NPP) construction, with special attention to the suitability of Chinese small modular reactors (SMRs) for Uzbekistan’s needs.
Additionally, they explored future projects and the development of capacities in uranium mining, processing, production, and the export of high-value products, as well as the subsequent use of fuel in NPPs.
Acknowledging Uzbekistan’s progressive reforms in its nuclear program, the Chinese side expressed strong interest in expanding bilateral relations across all areas of nuclear technology.
