On 26 April, Board of the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information (UzACI) held a session to sum up results of activity of the sector in the first quarter of 2007, introduction and development of information-communication technologies, determine perspectives and directions of further development.

Asad Khodjaev, deputy director-general of the UzACI, noted in his report that the volume of mail grew by 6.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2007, parcels by 16.5%, international and long-term telephone conversations by 10%.

The number of fixed telephone made up 1.78 million as of 1 April 2007. The telephone density comprised 6.9 phones per 100 citizens or 36.3 phones per 100 families. Ratio of use of existing capacity of automatic telephone system (ATS) rose by 89.2%. The level of digital capacities in 2006 rose from 66.2% to 76.4%.
