USAID invests additional US$6.1 million to support education in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 September 2024, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced an additional investment of US$6.1 million under its existing Development Objective Agreement (DOAG) with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, bringing the total investment under DOAG to over US$47 million.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, this contribution reflects USAID’s long-term commitment to supporting the comprehensive program of the Ministry aimed at developing the preschool and school education system, in alignment with Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy until 2030.

"By investing in education, we are investing in a better future for all. Quality education not only provides people with essential knowledge and skills but also paves the way for a more prosperous, equitable, and stable society," emphasized David Hoffman, the USAID Mission Director in Uzbekistan. He added, "Every dollar invested in education is a step towards creating a better tomorrow."

The additional funds will strengthen existing programs aimed at improving foundational skills among primary school students through inclusive education, as well as preparing students in grades 8-11 for future professional activities by equipping them with the entrepreneurial and economic skills necessary for successful participation in the economy of the future.

Since the signing of the DOAG agreement in 2019, USAID’s investments in Uzbekistan’s education sector have focused on developing reading and math skills in primary grades, improving English language proficiency, mastering information and communication technologies, and building employability skills.
