Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A group of ten Uzbek citizens is expected to be deported from New York to Tashkent this week, according to Ahror Burkhanov, spokesperson for Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Initially, U.S. authorities planned to send these individuals to Costa Rica, but following negotiations between Uzbek and American officials, an agreement was reached to return them directly to Uzbekistan.

Earlier, on 24 February, the U.S. deported seven Uzbek citizens, who were also originally designated for deportation to Costa Rica.

In recent weeks, the United States has carried out multiple deportation flights involving hundreds of migrants from Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, sending them to Panama and Costa Rica.

Commenting on the situation, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it remains in constant communication with authorities in the United States and Latin American countries to ensure the safe return of Uzbek nationals. The ministry emphasized that Uzbek diplomatic missions in the U.S. are ready to provide full support to all Uzbek citizens, regardless of their location.
