US Senate confirms Amy Coney Barrett as a judge of the US Supreme Court

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The US Senate approved Amy Coney Barrett as a judge of the US Supreme Court, and on 27 October she began work in the highest legal instance of the country.

Amy Coney Barrett is considered to be an adherent of "pure" reading of the laws "in the form in which they are written" and as thought by the authors, and not their interpretation, "as anyone would like."

Amy Coney Barrett (born 1972) is a US Supreme Court Justice. Prior to being approved by the Supreme Court, she served as a judge of the US Court of Appeals from 2017 to 2020. She is married and has seven children, two of whom are adopted from Haiti.

In connection with the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett, observers draw attention to a number of points.

1. The Supreme Court has established a twofold preponderance of conservative lawyers over liberal lawyers - 6 to 3.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the United States. It has been working since 1789. It consists of 9 judges. It has the right to assess the compliance of the adopted legislative acts with the US Constitution and to suspend the operation of "unconstitutional" laws.

2. Some voters fear that the existing liberal laws adopted earlier are under threat. (Fears primarily concern the rights of members of the LGBT community, the Law on Obamacare Affordable Care, Abortion Rights.)

In addition, Supreme Court rulings on any disputes regarding the 2020 elections are expected in favor of the Republicans.

3. Voting in the Senate on the candidacy of Amy Coney Barrett was held in accordance with the party division: 52 Republicans - "for", 47 Democrats (and 1 Republican) - "against". (For the first time in 150 years, a candidate did not receive votes from the opposing party.)

4. Regardless of the outcome of the presidential elections, Donald Trump ensured the long-term influence of the Conservatives on the US legal system. (Donald Trump appointed 220 Senate-approved judges, including three Supreme Court justices and 53 appellate judges.)

In general, observers believe that the composition of the Supreme Court is more important than the party affiliation of the owner of the White House.

Barrett’s appointment, along with a conservative majority in the Supreme Court, could make a difference for decades to come.
