US delegation visits Uzbek Interior Ministry for talks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A US delegation headed by the deputy head of the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s intelligence program, Antony Placido, has paid a working visit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The first deputy minister of internal affairs of Uzbekistan, Col A. Ibrohimov, received and had talks with them.

During the talks, Ibrohimov noted the importance and significance of the Uzbek-US relations and, above all, in the field of law-enforcement. As present-day realities have special requirements, it is necessary to initiate close cooperation between all interested parties in the struggle against negative phenomena of global significance such as international terrorism, religious extremism and drug smuggling. The drug dealers’ attempts to expand the sphere of their influence, find new ways and methods of smuggling and spreading drugs are of special concern. The drug dealers are trying to drag young people into their web of evil and use Uzbekistan as an initial link for smuggling drugs from neighbouring Afghanistan to other countries, including the USA.

In their attempts to eradicate this manifestation of evil, the law-enforcement agencies are taking all measures to curb the inflow of Afghan heroin and opiates, and this work is gaining momentum.

In his turn, Antony Placido thanked for the friendly and warm reception, and expressed his confidence in further development of cooperation between the two countries’ law-enforcement agencies to a high level.

The sides outlined prospects for further bilateral cooperation during the meeting.
