Uzbekistan 03/04/2008 UNFPA and the Republic Centre of Education Conduct Workshop on Teaching the Basics of Healthy Generation Educational Course
This course was developed by the Ministry of Public Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and technical support of UNESCO, UNFPA and UNODC.

"Our goal now is to deliver training to the group of educational system representatives from different parts of the Republic on how to teach the course and the way this subject should be taught in secondary schools," – says Ms. Guzal Salihova, representative of the Republic Centre of Education. "After this workshop is finished, our trainees will have the set of trainer’s skills necessary for passing the knowledge to their colleagues on the local level. It is very important to promote the healthy lifestyle throughout the whole school curricula."

The agenda of a five-day workshop includes discussions on teaching the Basics of Healthy Generation to secondary school students of 5th – 9th grades. The topics highlighted in the course include interactive methods of teaching the basics of reproductive health, family health, HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) prevention, decision making, conflict resolution, active listening skills and many other issues.

It is expected that by the end of this year about 1,400 school teachers in all regions of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Karakalpakstan will acquire necessary skills and knowledge to teach the Basics of Healthy Generation to students of 5th – 9th grades.
