UNFCCC registers ninth CDM-project of Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) registered another project of Uzbekistan “Leak reduction in gas distribution network of low and medium pressure in Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions” within the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) on 28 December 2010.

According to the UNFCCC, planed reduction of emission within the project will make up over 559,912 tonnes of CO2-equivallent a year. The project will be implemented in cooperation with Climate Change Capital (Great Britain).

It is planned to introduce latest materials and innovative equipment at gas distribution networks, which will allow to cut natural gas leakages and emission of methane to atmosphere.

In line with the UNFCCC data, it is expected that the organization will registered another project in Uzbekistan on 20 January 2011. The organization will review project “Reducing gas leaks in low pressure and medium pressure gas distribution networks in Ferghana Valley”, which is implemented in cooperation with MASDAR (UAE).

The project will help to reduce gas leakage in gas distribution networks in Ferghana Valley, which unites three regions – Andijan, Ferghana and Namangan.

The project will allow to cut 1.212 million tonnes of Certified Emission Reductions (CER) every year.

Currently, the UNFCCC registered the ninth CDM project of Uzbekistan with total planned emission reductions of about 2,686 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent a year.
