The applications for the competition were accepted from 1 September till 16 November. The winners of the contest were announced on 3 December, on International Day of People with Disability. Ten winners received netbooks and diplomas.

The competition was aimed at encouraging people with disabilities, who contribute to promotion of rights of people with disabilities in Uzbekistan, and spread of their experience in their activities.

The competition on civil initiatives to improve the lives and activities of people with disabilities "Equal rights - equal opportunities" helped draw public attention to the full integration of people with disabilities into society. In addition, the contest helped to encourage creative self-realization of people with disabilities, to support the creative and social achievements of people with disabilities, to bring them to the active and full participation in society.

Winners of the contest are:

Komil Abdullayev represents Syrdarya Regional Society of Disabled Persons. He created “House for persons with disabilities” under the society for 110 places. Currently, 62 people without houses live in it.

Farhod Abdurahmanov is representative of Association of business persons with disabilities “Nur”. He helped people with disabilities to launch business and helped to employment of 200 people with disabilities. Abdurahmanov also rendered free consulting services to social enterprises. He created subsidiary and pension for people with disabilities. He also initiated consulting council on disabilities issues and actively participates in promotion of ratification of UN Convention “On the rights of persons with disabilities”. He developed a manual on assistance to persons with disabilities in selection of profession.

Yuriy Aytov from Center for legal aid to people with disabilities “Status” is founder of quarterly free information legal bulletin for people with disabilities. He is a head of the NGO “Status” and active participant of movement for protection of rights of people with disabilities. He is author of five projects, which covered 350 people with disabilities. He regularly represents interests of people with disabilities in state bodies and NGOs, promote their rights.

Musurmon Ashurov created seven enterprises under Center for Children with disabilities “Yoruglik” with 100 job places. He helped children with disabilities to pay their education at higher educational establishments. He also assisted two girls with disabilities to find sponsors to pay their education in Saints Petersburg, Russia.

Bakhtiyor Botirov from Kashkadarya regional Society of Disabled Persons in cooperation with Vatanparvar launched training for people with disabilities to study car driving. Some 50 people trained in the course.

Nishonboy Madatkulov (Tashkent department of Uzbekistan Paralympic Association) organized a volleyball team from 16 people with disabilities, who did not leave their houses and attracted them to sport.

Guljahon Mahamadkulov (Millennium Society of People with disabilities) created database of people with disabilities and employees, as well as Club of people with disabilities, who search for job. In 2004-2012, she helped to employment of 977 people with disabilities.

Rayhan Nurmuhamedov (Mehribonlik public society of people with disabilities) organized several projects “Computers for people with disabilities”, “Social repair of houses with people with disabilities”, which covered over 200 people with disabilities. She also organized various cultural events of them.

Hosiyat Hasanova from Navoi Society of Disabled Persons organized sewing courses for women with disabilities and 45 women underwent training. She helped to attract sponsors to pay communal payments of 55 people with disabilities. She organized computer courses for 30 children with disabilities.

Turakhodja Erkhodjaev is editor of newspaper Qadriyat dedicated to issues of people with disabilities. He regularly covers issues of people with disabilities in newspaper. He also protected rights of people with disabilities.
