The Center is instrumental in promoting and up-streaming “Human Development” academic courses into the educational process and the curriculum of not only UWED but also of other higher educational institutions.

At present times there is a growing necessity in skilling highly qualified specialists among teachers, state bodies, mass media and young generation at large who understand the essence of the Human Development concept and are able to apply analysis for the realization of national development strategies. In this regard there is a high actuality in developing academic program of “Human Development” course and introduce it to the teaching process of HEIs of the country.

The creation of “Human Development” Resource Centre on the basis of UWED will promote and foster organization of scientific and methodological grounds for teaching Human Development approach as well as developing and conducting study courses for students, teachers, civil servants and other interested people, performing trainings for teachers, elaborating teaching/pedagogical methods and also increasing the level of professional scientific research in this sphere.

“Human Development” Resource Centre will serve as a platform for educational events and discussion on human development with participation of representatives from scientific/civic societies, think tank/researchers’ circles, state departments and local authorities. Elaboration of theoretical aspects, methodologies of the course, distribution and methodological materials, recommendations for teachers, creation of library, depository of films and documental materials which will assist to form practical skills of analysis on the base of Human Development indicators will be organized on the grounds of the Centre.

Centre will also assist in introducing “Human Development” course into the teaching process of not only the UWED but also other HEIs of the Republic of Uzbekistan by creation of informational and resource database and provision of its connection with regional sources, creation of Human Development web-site, laboratory for video lectures and Association of teachers on Human Development.

A precursor of opening the “Human Development” Resource Centre was the fact that an academic Human Development course was successfully piloted at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in 2008, the curricular of the “Human Development” Course was elaborated and an advanced copy of the “Human Development” textbooks in Russian was developed and published. As a result of mutual cooperation the Memorandum of Understanding by&between UNDP and UWED was signed on 25 August, 2008.
