The seminar aimed at reviewing postal service market of Uzbekistan, existing problems and perspectives, modern trends in development of postal services, improving legislation on postal services, etc.

Representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Office of Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsperson) of the Oliy Majlis, state bodies, Uzbekistan Pochtasi open joint stock company and others participated in the event.

The participants reviewed current state of postal service market and activity of Uzbekistan Pochtasi in the country, improvement of postal services and harmonization of national legislation to international ones, as well as training of specialists to the sector.

It was noted that the postal service market is developing worldwide and this requires to review legislation of Uzbekistan, regulating postal service market to meet current demands of the market.

The attendees also discussed new edition of Law “On Postal Communication”, which Legislative Chamber passed in the first reading. It is expected that the MPs will consider it in the second reading.

UNDP project “Enhancing Legislative and Institutional Capacities of the Parliament” supported this seminar. The aim of the project is to enhance capacity of the Legislative Chamber for effective law drafting, increased transparency and accessibility of the law drafts to public, and wider participation of academia, experts, general public, civil society, relevant governmental structures in legislative processes.
