Uzbekistan 28/06/2007 UNDP-backed project helps to raise legal awareness of Uzbek population
Clinicians of Law clinic under the University of World Economy and Diplomacy conduct training in the sphere of housing law, particularly associations of housing and communal services rights and duties of members, UNDP’s press release said.

The training is supported by UNDP within the project "Legal Aid and Legal Literacy for Better Access to Justice ". The event will take place in 17th mavze makhalla of Chilanzar district, Tashkent on 29 June. The training is aimed to promote legal knowledge among population in the sphere of housing law.

Legal clinic students together with legal experts and trainers will carry out training on housing law (touching upon rights and duties of members of associations of housing and communal services). This training is directed to wide audience, particularly to people who much interested in housing law. Theme determined by high concentration and necessity of knowledge in this sphere. Choice were dictated by numerous appeals to Legal clinic and found that people have gaps in legal aspects of such associations, rights and obligations of inmates, charter of association, where should one go to settle the disputes and etc.

Active representatives of this makhalla expressed an opinion that, this training is very important for people, during often changes occurring in legal acts of housing law nowadays.

During the preparation students used not only their academic knowledge, but also moderated, practical experience earned in Law clinic. That’s why they chose such questions which were most problematical during the work with clients.

Students developed brochures on rights and duties of Communal association members, which will help people to orient in their rights and duties.

This training is organized within UNDP project "Legal Aid and Legal Literacy for Better Access to Justice". The main objectives of the project are to improve access to justice for people who cannot afford or have limited access to legal services, such as women, the poor, the elderly and people with disabilities and to increase quality of legal services through training of law students.
