Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change has signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to implement a project aimed at updating the country’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and preparing its 7th national report.

The project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) under its GEF-8 Program, seeks to align Uzbekistan’s NBSAP with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and to enhance the effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the national level.

Implementation of the project is planned from November 2024 to July 2027.

The agreement was signed during the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. With support from UNDP, Uzbekistan has already become the first country in Central Asia to officially publish new national biodiversity targets under the CBD framework.
