UN Secretary General names two important problems that the international community will have to deal with in the near future

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The creation of a vaccine against the new coronavirus and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere are two important problems that the international community will have to deal with in the near future. This was announced on 20 September on the eve of the start of a general political discussion at the 75th session of the General Assembly, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in an interview with PBS television, TASS reports.

“One challenge is whether we get vaccines and treatments that are good for everyone,” he said. - We have seen statements from different countries that they will be ready to share what they are developing. On the other hand, we are witnessing a rivalry with some states trying to provide vaccines to their own populations. If there is an effective vaccine, then it is important that it becomes a blessing for everyone, that it be a national vaccine, something that is available to everyone in the world, and I believe that it would be in everyone's interest. "

According to the UN Secretary General, "the risk is that the two economies will act according to their own rules in trade, there will be two Internet, two different strategies for creating artificial intelligence, two dominant currencies." As a result, the UN Secretary General emphasized, "there may be a threat of confrontation, which will become very serious."

According to Antonio Guterres, the second topic to be discussed in 2020-2021 is “the problem of climate change”. “I am personally involved in a very active campaign aimed primarily at the countries with the highest air emissions, so that we move towards a sharp reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 2050,” he said.

The UN Secretary General also believes that the US-China contradictions can lead to serious problems in the foreseeable future. “Before there was a bipolar world, then the world became unipolar with one superpower - the United States,” he said. - Then the situation changed, and we began to move towards a multipolar world, but the world is not yet multipolar, rather, chaos reigns in it and relations between the powers are becoming more and more complicated.

And in these conditions, there are two major powers in terms of economic power, the contradictions between which can create serious problems. I would say that there is a risk, but we have not yet reached this stage, we are still at the stage when the situation is unpredictable and we need to see what happens in the next two or three years in order to have a clearer perspective."
