UN General Assembly adopts Uzbekistan-initiated resolution on decade of reforestation and forest restoration
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The United Nations General Assembly in New York has adopted a resolution initiated by the Republic of Uzbekistan, titled “Decade of Action on Reforestation and Forest Restoration in Line with Sustainable Forest Management.”
The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 80 countries, including the Central Asian states, Azerbaijan, Russia, Brazil, Austria, Germany, Finland, Portugal, India, Iran, Pakistan, the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain.
The document builds on initiatives proposed by the President of Uzbekistan, including the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy program, the nationwide Yashil Makon project, and the Green Belt of Central Asia tree-planting campaign.
The resolution proclaims 2027–2036 as the Decade of Action on Reforestation and Forest Restoration and calls for the mobilization of efforts and resources to achieve these goals. It also encourages countries and organizations to intensify measures aimed at improving forest cover and promoting sustainable forest management.
