UK Delegation Strengthens Education Ties with Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  A delegation of leading UK education organisations concluded a successful mission to Uzbekistan, organised by the British Embassy, the Department for Business and Trade in the UK and the British Council in Uzbekistan, focusing on enhancing cooperation in English Language Teaching (ELT), higher education, schools, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The delegation is seeking to build upon successful UK-Uzbekistan collaborations such as Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) working with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education on CPD, or Cambridge Partnership for Education developing curricula in Uzbekistan’s Presidential Schools.

The mission, which took place on 14-16 October 2024, included representatives from leading UK schools, universities and prominent UK ELT/TVET organisations.

The delegation engaged in high-level meetings with the Deputy Minister of Pre-school and School Education and First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Mr. Shakhrukh Daliyev, highlighting the UK's commitment to supporting Uzbekistan's educational ambitions.

Discussions were held around strengthening collaboration in ELT and TVET, with a shared emphasis on quality and inclusivity in education. The delegation sought to understand regulatory challenges that may hinder UK institutions from establishing partnerships in Uzbekistan.

The delegation visited a number of educational institutions, including the University of Digital Economics and Agrotechnologies, Westminster International University in Tashkent, and Al-Khorazmiy International School, gaining valuable insights into the Uzbek education landscape.

The delegation participated in the Central Asia Universities Forum (CAUF) at New Uzbekistan University, engaging in discussions on curriculum modernisation, innovative partnership models, and bridging academia and industry. Both the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education expressed a strong commitment to working closely with UK institutions, signalling the start of a new era of partnership.
