UK and Central Asia theatres to present “Threads of Silk”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The first project of a theatre exchange between the UK and Central Asia premieres this week in Tashkent with a production called “Threads of Silk”.

Artists from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and the UK have formed a collective creation which is being shown in Tashkent. Written by Camila Abdurakhmanova and produced by British director, Paul Harman, the project is about four women of different ages and backgrounds who challenge and address the stereotypes and preconceptions of women in Central Asia.

As part of the exchange, “Threads of Silk” will be taken to the UK in November where it will be performed to youth audiences at theatre festivals with the view to a tour of Western Europe if it proves successful.

Paul Harman, who both stars in and produces the project, said: “The exchange will introduce audiences to different cultures through different creative approaches. In theatre in Central Asia you get a sense of scale, breadth of vision and philosophical themes that are bold and expansive in manner. Theatre in the UK is smaller and focuses more on social and personal issues so this exchange will be very interesting for audiences”.

“Threads of Silk” will be performed on 14 November at Takeoff Festival in Durham, UK.
