Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A project for the production of electric scooters has commenced in Andijan region of Uzbekistan.
With an investment of US$10 million, the project is being implemented within the "Ipak Yo'li" Free Economic Zone (FEZ). The initiative plans to manufacture up to 2 million electric scooters annually, with exports valued at US$5 million. Production is expected to begin by late 2025.
Additionally, the Chinese company China Baoli Technologies Holdings Limited has started constructing a plant for the production of colored metal structures in the same economic zone. This project, with an estimated investment of US$200 million, will have an annual production capacity of 45,000 tons, with an export potential of US$18 million. The plant is scheduled to launch operations in 2026.
In February 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the establishment of the "Ipak Yo'li" FEZ in collaboration with Chinese investors. The initiative includes over 30 projects totaling US$3 billion, spanning sectors such as energy, engineering, textiles, and agriculture.
That same month, a resolution was passed to formalize the creation of the FEZ. The zone covers an area of 218 hectares, over 201 hectares of which have been repurposed from agricultural land to industrial, transport, communication, defense, and other uses.
