Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A man suspected of committing a theft has died in Buka district of Tashkent region. He could have been tortured in the temporary detention center of the district police department, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on 3 June, a criminal case was opened against US under part 3 of Article 169 (theft) of the Criminal Code. He was detained. He was placed in the temporary detention center of the Buka District Department of Internal Affairs.

Around 11:30 p.m., an ambulance was called for him due to his deteriorating health. The citizen died in the hospital despite the medical assistance provided.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the working group conducted an investigation into the situation. On 3 June, at about 10:00 p.m., operatives from the criminal investigation department of the Buka District Department of Internal Affairs brought U.S. to an office instead of a special interrogation room. They violated due process. An inquiry was held about his involvement in another crime. The man’s health deteriorated and he later died.

The results of the preliminary forensic medical examination showed that there were bodily injuries on the body of the men.

The prosecutor’s office of Tashkent region opened a criminal case under part 3 of article 235 (use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) of the Criminal Code. Police officers J. D. and G. Sh. were fired and detained.

The head of Buka District Department of Internal Affairs, his first deputy, the head of the criminal investigation department, the head of the investigation department and an employee of the duty unit were also relieved of their posts.

An internal audit has been appointed in relation to the actions of employees of the central office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and responsible managers and other employees of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of the Tashkent region.

The operatives involved in the case deny their guilt. Taking into account the injuries found on U. S.’s body, the prosecutor’s office ordered an additional histological examination.
